Jasmine "Jazzy" Lee was just 15 years old when she was tragically taken from us. She was energetic and full of life. She will be missed.
Jasmine "Jazzy" Lee, a ninth-grader at Hodgson Vocational Technical High School, died early Sunday from injuries suffered when she was shot in the head about 7 p.m. Saturday at the home where her mother lived in the 100 block of Minquadale Ave.
Corey L. Barbour, 19, of the 100 block of Chestnut Crossing Drive, was charged with manslaughter, weapon offenses and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
He is being held in the Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $140,000 bail and faces a hearing on the charges.
According to court records, Barbour was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a second-degree robbery conviction on Dec. 5, 2006, in Family Court, and another weapon conviction in Superior Court on Oct. 10, 2008.
Barbour was in the bedroom with Lee and a 16-year-old girl when a .357 Magnum Ruger revolver went off after he pulled it from his waistband, police said.
Lee, who relatives said was setting her hair at the time, was hit by the bullet.
"She never seen it coming," said her cousin Del-nita Outlaw, 31, of Elkton, Md.
"I'm sure this is very shocking to the community, as it is to us as well,". "Anytime there is a loss of life, especially a 15-year-old, it's shocking."
Barbour is the father of Lee's 17-year-old sister Ashley's baby.
Lee, described by her cousin as funny, energetic and bright.
Lee lived with her grandmother and Sister in Kimberton, near Newark.
Kathy Demarest, spokeswoman for the New Castle County Vocational Technical School District, said the high school had counselors and psychologists available to students and staff members Tuesday in the wake of the tragedy.
Lee was a freshman assigned to the exploratory program, Demarest said.
She had not yet selected a career program to follow.
Outlaw said her cousin had just finished beautician studies, but really wanted to go into nursing.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at New Destiny Fellowship Church at 906 E. 16th St. in Wilmington.

She leaves to Cherish her Memory, Her Gandmother Patricia who was always by her side, Her Mother Laura Lee and Step-father Curtis Taylor, Her loving and special "Auntie" Melva Lee-Linton and Her Sister Ashley Lee and her Neice Cor'Jae Barbour. She also leaves a large host of Uncles, aunts, cousin and many friends.

I know you continue to watch over us and for that we are blessed, but your physical presence is missed so much. Your sweet smile and your warms hugs are missed the most. If I could rewind time I would have traded places so that you could have lived long enough to have a family of your own. I love and miss you so much. Wow 17 today. I sure wish you could be here in the flesh to celebrate. Nana and Mom-mom miss you so much they haven't been the same since you've been gone....truth is no one has. You never had a chance to live and watching you in that hospital bed I begged to switch places with you, you were going places you deserved to still be here. I love you cousin and we think of you often. Your niece is getting so big, sissy will make sure that she know who you are. Missing and loving you always!
A year since you were called home
Hey Cous just wanted to say hey and let you know how much we love and miss you. It's a year ago today since I got that dreadful call and raced up to the E.R. We all prayed, cried and hoped that you would be okay. We know now that you are in a better place, free from pain and heartache.
